A High Point Photographer takes on Destination Location Senior Photos
Our inaugural destination shoot took us to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina this year! As I was sharing our model team shoot dates with the girls at the beginning of the season, we noticed the school system had a three day weekend in September. Our wheels started turning, and going to the beach was mentioned. While I've taken family photos at the beach before, I'd never traveled with a group of seniors, and if I have it my way, we will most certainly try to plan a Kelli's Krew trip every year!
Cloudy Day Beach Photos at Ocean Isle Beach
Driving through the tropical depression named Ophelia on Friday was not fun, but we were happy to arrive safely. The girls spent the evening settling in and just hanging out. Due to the cloudy, wet weather, beach pictures were NOT going to happen on Saturday. Instead, we headed to the outlets and spent the day shopping.
It had cleared enough in the evening that we could capture some cloudy street images. I love the clouds as they can create such dramatic skies in images! Soon after, and before we all turned hangry, we headed for dinner right there on the island.
Senior Sunrise Portraits at Ocean Isle Beach
We watched the weather like a hawk all day Saturday. When we saw that Sunday's forecast was calling for warm and sunny skies, we were so excited!
I gave the girls an option for sunrise portraits. Though I'm not sure they loved the 5:45 a.m. wake up call, seeing a fox digging in the sand and watching the sun rise above the water was well worth it! We had so much fun with the morning light and a near empty beach.
Sunset Senior Beach Portraits
A nap was definitely in order after the early morning wake up call! I chose to take mine with my toes in the sand. We all spend a good part of the afternoon lounging and just taking in the gorgeous day on the beach.
Once late afternoon came, it was back to getting pretty for our second shoot of the day. We found a quaint little boardwalk on the east end of the island, which looked to be amazing for some earthy portraits. However, we soon realized it was swarming with mosquitoes so that location was short lived!
And of course, you can't be at the beach without some beautiful images of the sea grass and a darling dune path.
Want to be part of the Krew?
If your senior year is coming up, and being part of a small group that wants a safe place with friendly faces, inclusivity, and fun, consider being part of the Krew.
While taking photos in a group setting is part of the fun, my hope is to foster a group of individuals that want to meet new faces, include everyone, and just have a safe place to land.
The Krew season includes four group shoots (summer, fall, winter, and cap and gown in the spring), your senior session, and a BFF or special person shoot just as you finish your junior year.
Destination shoots are added, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
